Soon, our hospital's team of doctors will be flying to Palo Alto to undergo training at Stanford Hospital. This hospital performed the world's first combined heart and lung transplant, which is a very significant operation and a considerable breakthrough in treating diseases in this area. The chief physician of our hospital organized a small group of cardiologists and surgeons to train with local specialists and implement this technology in our hospital. Everyone will be staying in one place to facilitate communication, meetings, and discussions about the day, and I was tasked with selecting a hotel since I am the director's secretary and have considerable travel experience. An important factor in the selection was the location near the hospital, so that the commute would not take more than 30 minutes, as the training will mainly take place in the mornings. I found 7 good hotels of different categories to compare and choose the most suitable one. The image galleries and prices get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on May 23, 2025.

The second hotel is also five-star, for comparison and availability of choice. It is also conveniently located in relation to the hospital, and Stanford University can even be seen from the windows of the hotel. Moreover, it has an "all-inclusive" option, which I think will be quite useful.
This hotel is approximately the same distance to the hospital when compared to the first one. By taxi - 6-7 minutes, by public transport - 27-28 minutes, well, I don't consider walking, even though it takes 30 minutes. Although, maybe someone of the doctors might want to take a walk.
The rooms look very cozy, and reviews say that it is also comfortable and clean here. There is a refrigerator in the room, a Nespresso coffee machine, air conditioning, and a television - all elements of a comfortable stay. There will be a nice bathroom with bathrobes, slippers, and complimentary toiletries.
There is a terrace with a pool that will help you relax after a busy day, as well as an outdoor dining terrace with fire pit seating where you can unwind in the evening. I liked the variety of relaxation spots in the hotel, it's just what you need.

This is the last five-star hotel on the list. I think it will help to understand whether it is worth staying in such a category; so far, I like the options. But I also want to look at lower categories and see what services they offer.
This hotel is located a bit further from the hospital than the previous one. If you take a taxi, the ride will take 15 minutes, which suits us just fine. However, public transport will take quite a while, around an hour. I think this option is not really suitable. It's great that San Francisco Bay is nearby; we can go for a walk there on our day off, and the city center is just a 3-minute walk away.
According to reviews, the beds here are super comfortable, and they are all king-size, which I think doctors will appreciate. Overall, the rooms are cozy, maybe not very large, but with spacious bathrooms. Also, there is a beautiful view from the windows, we will definitely have a good mood in the mornings. Some rooms have living rooms, which is an additional relaxation area where you can unwind, I consider this a big plus.
The hotel offers massage services, has a heated pool, doctors will definitely make use of these services, there's no better way to relax after surgeries. I also noticed that they offer free shoe cleaning, I think that's a nice addition.
Enchante Boutique Hotel
- Distance from city center:
- 0.5 km
- Bar / Lounge
- Free Wi-Fi
- WiFi
- Air Conditioned
- Restaurant
- Refrigerator
- Free Parking
I enjoyed the atmosphere of Paris in this mansion. I think it will be nice to change the scenery when coming back from the hospital, and in such a boutique hotel, you will definitely switch off from the work routine and studies.
The most convenient and fastest way to get to this hotel is by taxi, the journey will take about 15 minutes. Other methods are much longer, so I will not consider them. Nearby is the Los Altos Farmer's Market, which is convenient if someone wants to go shopping. Also, within a few minutes' walk is the beautiful Redwood Preserve Park and nature trail. Some doctors from the group enjoy sports, so they will appreciate such proximity to the parks.
I noted that you can relax in the library, sit by the fireplace or in the open patio. They say that live music is also playing here. It's great that you can find good relaxing entertainment without leaving the hotel.
The rooms here are very comfortable, with large beds. Each room has a television, ironing facilities, a refrigerator, and a coffee machine. Some even have a fireplace. In general, the perfect atmosphere for a vacation has been created. It may be a bit too romantic, but it is perfectly suitable for a change of scenery.
El Prado (ex. Garden Court Hotel)
- Distance from city center:
- 1.6 km
- Bar / Lounge
- Golf Course
- Free Wi-Fi
- Garden
- WiFi
- Restaurant
- Air Conditioned
This is the second four-star hotel, like the previous one, and so far I like everything in it just as much as in the five-star hotels. It is located in the center of Palo Alto, and the Stanford University campus is only a 6-minute drive away. I think this is a good choice.
The hospital is a 10-minute taxi ride and 25-30 minutes by public transport away. Quite decent. Better than at Enchante Boutique Hotel. There is a Stanford shopping center nearby, where you can go shopping or just take a walk.
There is a beautiful café-bar for breakfast, where freshly brewed coffee and signature dishes are served, which guests praise highly. Lunch will likely take place elsewhere, but for dinner, you can enjoy Italian cuisine at the hotel restaurant Il Fornaio, which offers the option to sit indoors or outdoors.
It's really great that all rooms have a separate balcony, where you can greet the morning with a cup of coffee and set the mood for work. In the evening, you can order a massage session through the concierge. The rooms here are said to be comfortable and spacious. They especially praised the hot shower and excellent cleaning.
Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel
- Distance from city center:
- 1.8 km
- Bar / Lounge
- Bicycle Rental
- Free Wi-Fi
- Garden
- Restaurant
- Air Conditioned
- Refrigerator
The last two hotels are three-star. I added them to my list because the reviews about them were quite positive.
I found the presence of a swimming pool, beautiful grounds, and balconies in the rooms convenient.
The distance to the hospital is short: 5-6 minutes by car and about half an hour by public transport. There are many parks nearby where you can go for a morning or evening run and enjoy the fresh air. The hotel's location is perfect.
I liked that breakfast in the form of a buffet is served at the grill bar by the pool, it has such a relaxing atmosphere. You can relax on the terrace with a beautiful view, there is a small waterfall and a path with a flowing river. From the photos, the rooms do not seem very large, but they are cozy enough. I would say that they correspond to the rating of a three-star hotel.
Overall, the reviews are good, but the building is not entirely new, guests have mentioned that it could use a little renovation. They say it can be noisy at night too. Probably, I still wouldn’t choose this option for a team of doctors. The amenities are there, but I would like a bit more comfort.
The Cottages Hotel (ex. Red Cottage Inn)
- Distance from city center:
- 1.1 km
- Golf Course
- Free Wi-Fi
- Garden
- WiFi
- Air Conditioned
- Refrigerator
- Free Parking
The last hotel seemed more appealing to me than the previous one, it resembles a ranch. I think it's also a good place to switch from hospital work. It is located in the heart of Menlo Park and is surrounded by a magnificent grove of redwoods. The atmosphere here is lovely.
The taxi ride to the hospital will take about 13 minutes, while public transport will take around 40. I think it's better to take a taxi, especially since it's not expensive here – $1.86 per kilometer, and it won't take long, the trip will cost about $12. There are many schools near the hotel, so the area will not be too noisy, and the coast is not far away, so you can go there once classes are over. Additionally, it is just a few steps from busy local shops and restaurants, so the location is very convenient.
I really liked the rooms. Indeed, there is a feel of a country house, everything is stylish and well thought out, especially the bathrooms. For a three-star hotel, it's really great. Guests also praise the comfortable and well-furnished rooms, the staff's attention to detail, and the good renovation. The rooms come with a television, a workspace/vanity, a chair, and a large bed with bedside tables. The large windows, which offer a wonderful view of the hotel grounds, were delightful.
I was particularly impressed by the 300-year-old California oak under which the hotel is located. This tree not only creates a unique atmosphere but also provides practical benefits: it offers shade on a hot day and soft lighting in the evenings.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the open fireplaces, which create a cozy atmosphere, and the seasonal heated pool. When I read reviews and looked at photos, I felt the incredible care that the owners of this place have put into it for their guests.
Reviews about the staff's performance, the hotel's cleanliness, delicious breakfasts, and services such as free laundry and 24-hour tea only confirmed my impressions. I didn't expect this place to be so appealing, although I immediately liked the design when I found it.
I think I will choose The Cottages Hotel and hope that the doctors will like it as much as I do.

First, I decided to choose a five-star hotel to have different accommodation options. Besides, there is financing available. The hotel is cozy, clean, and conducive to relaxation, which is what doctors will need after busy days in the hospital. Plus, the view is beautiful, which is also relaxing.
It takes about 7-8 minutes by taxi, which is perfect, while public transport takes longer – 25-28 minutes, but it still meets our criteria. Plus, it is located 500 meters from the Palo Alto train station, making it convenient to get back home. Also, the Standford shopping center and the farmer's market in downtown Palo Alto are a 5-minute drive away. It will be very convenient for shopping.
The rooms are spacious, with a pleasant warm light that is very relaxing after the white light of operating rooms, and a minimalist design that is not irritating with unnecessary details. There is a TV and an Illy espresso machine, as a cup of coffee and a relaxed atmosphere in the morning provide strength and energy. Plus, the beds are very comfortable. I looked at the reviews, and visitors were satisfied with their stay. It's very good that there is room service for food and drinks, available 24/7, and this is a great help when you are tired and have no energy to go out for dinner.
