Soon, my mom and I are going to The University of Tokyo Hospital for a scheduled examination. We have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and are very happy to see the best doctors and researchers in the world! Right now, I am looking for a good hotel near the clinic, and, to be honest, it is not easy at all. Tokyo is a huge city, and of course, we do not want to spend a lot of time on the road; especially since we will need to go to the clinic daily. So far, I have only managed to find 5 suitable options; I would like to talk about them. The image galleries and prices get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. This charming three-star hotel appealed to me with its location. First of all, it is a 15-minute walk from the clinic, and secondly, it is located on the shores of a lake in a very beautiful green park. My mom and I decided that if we are going to walk to the hospital, it should be through a beautiful and picturesque path!

Location near the hospital

The hotel has a really great location - there are cafes and restaurants nearby, a large park and even a zoo, as well as a train station and two subway stations. From here, you can reach any point in the city, although we probably won't be going anywhere. And it's great that the hotel is located by the lake in Ueno Park; it's the perfect place for walks.

Along this lake will be our daily route to the hospital. The distance between the hotel and the clinic is about 1 km, and it will take us no more than 15 minutes to get there.

A few pleasant neighbors: a 7-Eleven supermarket, an Italian restaurant, and several Buddhist temples within the park!

Advantages and disadvantages

First of all, I want to note the nice view from the room windows. There are two options: a view of the park or the lake. To be honest, I like both! The rooms overall look decent, but I can't imagine how two people can live in a room of 11 sq.m. I haven't seen such small rooms in a long time! Unfortunately, in this hotel, almost all the rooms are that size, and that is what most tourists complain about. I also saw comments in the reviews about the synthetic bedding. I think it will be very uncomfortable to sleep on that during the hot summer months.

It's great that the hotel offers breakfast; however, it's paid, so it will be easier for us to go to some interesting café; there are plenty of them in this area. Also, they charge an additional fee for early check-in.

Overall, the hotel is not bad and is very suitable for our location, but I still have some concerns about certain details. We need to think carefully before making a decision.

Here is another three-star hotel located across the road from the Tokyo University campus. I really liked the reviews and high rating of this hotel, and judging by the photos, the rooms are more spacious, and the breakfasts are not only delicious but also free!

Location

Of course, living by the lake is very pleasant, but there are always so many tourists! This hotel, on the other hand, is located on a quiet and nice street, where you rarely encounter not only travelers but also locals. I really liked the area! Just one block separates the hotel from the busy road, along which you can find various shops and cafes, including Starbucks and a cool pizzeria, Super Pizza. On the other side of this highway begins the territory of Tokyo University, where our clinic is located. The entrance to the territory is free, it will be very pleasant to stroll through the beautiful park before the procedures. Specifically, it takes us about 10-13 minutes to walk to the hospital building.

Advantages and disadvantages

Wow! The hotel has such good reviews! Everyone likes the location, the staff, and the service. Personally, I am also attracted by the availability of breakfasts already included in the room rate. It is, of course, quite simple, but we don't need anything more. Besides the buffet, they prepare an omelette or fried fish to choose from. The rooms are bright and spacious (by Japanese standards). They say that it is always very quiet in the room, even if the window faces the road. The staff here is very friendly, they speak excellent English, and they clean the rooms daily!

It should be noted that the hotel is somewhat difficult to find, especially if you are in Tokyo for the first time. Also, many tourists do not like that the nearest metro station is located a full 10 minutes walk from the hotel. This, by the way, doesn't bother me at all!

From the photos, this hotel seemed quite fresh and modern to me. It is located 900 meters from the hospital, the rooms are small but clean and bright, although many tourists are dissatisfied with the local breakfast. Let's take a closer look at this hotel!

Location

This hotel is located at a very busy intersection, and for us, this can immediately be a significant drawback. Still, I prefer quieter areas, especially when it comes to the multimillion Tokyo. The way to the hospital (about 1 km) will go along this same road, which is also very uncomfortable for my mom and me. The only advantage is the proximity of several metro stations, public transport stops, and a huge number of shops, restaurants, and cafes.

By the way, there are indeed a lot of restaurants here for any taste and budget: from Italian cuisine to Filipino and Thai. Of course, there are also plenty of traditional Japanese izakayas (local pubs) here.

Advantages and disadvantages

Naturally, I was immediately stressed by the very small rooms. Just imagine, a double room with an area of 9 sq.m... It will definitely be a bit cramped for my mom and me. However, the price of the hotel is more than pleasant! There are practically no such affordable options in this area. However, in the reviews, tourists often complain about the breakfast - they say it is monotonous and not very tasty. This doesn’t make me very happy.

Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the rooms in the hotel are very clean, and they are indeed well cleaned. The location is also a big plus for many. Tourists especially like that they can quickly get to the airport by metro. It's great that the hotel even provides pajamas!

This is probably the closest hotel to the clinic. That's why I included it in my selection. It has average reviews, but for me, the most important thing is the convenient location. By the way, breakfast is also available here!

Location

The hotel is located right next to Hongo-sanchome Sta. metro station, which makes it very popular among travelers. It takes us about 8-10 minutes to walk to the hospital. The path is quite simple; you just need to cross the road and enter the Tokyo University grounds. It's nice that, despite the noisy roads and being in the very center of the area, the hotel is a bit hidden in the courtyards. Because of this, it is not so noisy here. There are many cafes, restaurants (mostly Japanese), and grocery stores nearby.

Advantages and disadvantages

I felt that this hotel is a bit outdated. It must have opened a long time ago. However, the rooms here are more spacious than in the previous option, although they do not look as presentable. Tourists in reviews write that the hotel is very clean, and the staff speaks English very well and is always polite to guests. Many also praise the breakfasts; they say that they are tasty and hearty.

As for the drawbacks, I can mention the lack of drinking water in the room, very early check-out (10 am!), and a bathroom that is too small. I think some may find it difficult to locate the hotel, as it is situated inside a courtyard.

It is certainly worth noting the low cost. Our examination is already not cheap, so we do not mind saving on accommodation.

And the last on my list is another three-star hotel located 1 km from the clinic. This is probably the most remote option of all. However, this hotel even has a sauna and a small spa, which sounds very attractive to me personally.

Location

The hotel is located in a very pleasant area, albeit a bit off the beaten path from the park and the university. However, we can reach the hospital in 14 minutes, and the route will take us through busy streets with lively traffic. Incidentally, there is another hospital - Tohto Bunkyo Hospital - located directly across from the hotel.

There aren't many cafes and shops nearby, but there are enough within walking distance. The nearest grocery store is Summit, just 200 meters from the hotel. This is very convenient for us.

On the plus side, there is an ancient Buddhist temple, Reiunji Temple, just a few steps from the hotel.

Advantages and disadvantages

I'll be honest - the hotel is old; it was opened several decades ago, and this is evident even from the photos. The rooms here are very modest, but they are strictly designed in the Japanese style. The only thing to note is that tall people will clearly be uncomfortable here (especially in the bathroom).

The hotel has a sauna and massage services, good hygiene amenities; guests note the daily cleaning and cleanliness, as well as the friendly staff.

Breakfast is available at the hotel, however many find it to be very bland, and sometimes even not fully thawed...

My favorite in this selection is Forest Hongo Hotel. Firstly, it has a very convenient location - a cozy green area and close to the hospital. Secondly, they serve delicious breakfasts, and the rooms are quite spacious, which is a rarity for Tokyo!
